Runner of the month – December 2018

December ROTM nominations were dominated by two events, Cross Country and the Seeley Cup.

Suzanne Brennan was nominated for rounding up and leading the ladies XC team in to battle in the Athletics NI XC league.

Club newcomer Ramunas Stanevicius received several nominations for some excellent PBs, race performances and team XC participation. Definitely a Harrier to watch out for in the future!

Similarly, Kevin Donnelly and Lee O’Boyle received nominations for superb PBs in the Seeley Cup, strong XC results and a sprinkling of podiums for the club.

But there can only be one winner and in my opinion this one is long overdue!

He is one of the most consistent club attendees throughout the year at training, always puts in a great performance in races and has had some amazing achievements throughout the year.

Sometimes these performances go under the radar due to his modesty, but it has finally caught up with him this month and has not gone unnoticed by many voting Harriers.

December saw him finish off a great year in style with a blistering PB in the Seeley Cup and some brilliant runs in XC events, helping the men’s team to score some valuable league bonus points.

ROTM is… the one… the only… Joe Mathers!

Club Report – Sunday 13th January 2019

“Blow, blow, thou winter wind, thou art not so unkind as man’s ingratitude; Thy tooth is not so keen, because thou art not seen, although thy breath be rude.”
So said my bro’ Willy Shakespeare. Probably after he visited Mallusk one January.
But even he would have been impressed, nay overwhelmed, by the sight of almost 500 headers out in the fields today for the Mathieson Cup and Shield event. But more of that later.

Overall the men finished 4th. Well done gents!

Full results for the juniors are not available at the time of writing but there was a second place finish for Tom Fleming in the U12 race and a third place finish for Adam McCann in the U14 race.

All those who helped organise the race, provided sponsorship, encouraged participation, set up the course and facilities, tried to wreck the gazebo, baked/provided food and drinks, marshalled, cheered everyone on, did timekeeping, provided results, served food and hot drinks and tidied up afterwards should give themselves a big pat on the back. A job well done folks.

This week’s tune is for all those who were brave enough to take on Mallusk’s weather in January. And won.

Citypark parkrun is in the lovely city of Craigavon, home of the roundabout and our local version of Milton Keynes. It has a dry ski slope and a petting zoo. I once saw Gloria Hunniford in Craigavon. There is nothing else printable that I can say about Craigavon. But I love Craigavon.

Well done to all those who managed to get 2 parkruns in this morning. Let’s see you keep that effort up all year now!
