Club Run Report – 28th December 2021

The parkrun Gods have smiled on me this year and made Xmas Day a Saturday. No double results! And still the report is late. To be honest, I am still trying to work out whether to stop living solely off chocolate and cheese or if I should just use these After Eights as crackers to finish off the brie.

Taking on the Xmas day parkruns this week were:
Valley parkrun:
Kevin Donnelly 19:32, Micky McAuley 20:14PB, ADav 22:07, Alan Erwin 24:01, Eloise McAuley 24:23PB, Elijah Cushley 24:39, David Esler 27:03, Emily Murphy 27:59, Anton Piatek 30:21, Leo McAuley 1:00:31

And welcome Kevin to your first Valley parkrun!

Wallace parkrun:
Elaine Kennedy 31:05

Stormont parkrun:
Stephen Semple 24:27, Lord Ian Brennan 26:51

Derry City parkrun:
Johnny Carey 24:32
Jordanstown junior parkrun:
Joseph Eager 8:51 and first finisher, Matthew Hawkins 11:17 and second finisher

In other racing, Aidy Hughes continued his 2021 5k tour of darkest Tyrone, this time completing the Brocagh Bay Boxing Day 5k in 26:20.

On the same day, Bernard McKeaveney forgot about the Turkey Run and so entered the Titanic Festival 10k, finishing in 52:13.

This week’s tune is dedicated to Jim Howe of St Louis Missouri. He may not be a Harrier but he invented Tums, the first indigestion tablet. For that, I will be forever grateful. Sir, we salute you. With more wine and more cheese. And more tablets.

Until next week, behave.

Club Run Report – 19th December 2021

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That time where I can eat and drink absolutely everything, safe in the knowledge that I can justify it with “I’ll get back to training in January. Sure it’s only a week or two away”. I may need rolled onto the 3G pitches on a Tuesday but I’ll be back!

7 first timers on the course so not sure if any of these are 5k PBs. And one PB missed by one second. Unlucky son!
Jordanstown junior parkrun:

Tom Fleming ROTM 6:49PB and 1st finisher (another weekend double, Emily Murphy 8:48PB and 1st female finisher, Kobe McClelland 9:42, Matthew Hawkins 10:20

So, I let me wish a safe and Happy Christmas to all the Harriers. Have a good one.
Then get ready to hurt in the new year.

Club Run Report – 5th December 2021

“Regrets, I’ve had a few” sang Frank when he did it his way and I’m sure that, this morning, many of the Harriers who attended the Xmas dinner last night may have agreed. But a great night was still had by all, despite the nonsense being talked and the odd sore head today. Sure, we even had an appearance from Santa! Can’t believe Ian missed him.
Taking on the parkruns this week were:

Valley parkrun:
Ramunas Stanevicius 23:12, Elijah Cushley 25:23, Eloise McAuley 25:49, Paul Skillen 25:54, Clare Teer 28:17, Emily Murphy 28:47, Sharon Dunn 29:46, Dermot Boyd 33:50, John Teer 39:38, Marie McBrien 45:07

Leo McAuley 9:04 and 2nd finisher, Eloise McAuley 9:16 and 3rd finisher
And ADav was back at the Valley finishing in 22:29

The last major road race of the year took place this weekend and several Harriers took the opportunity for one more potential PB at the Podium for Sport Seeley Cup 10k:
Kevin Donnelly 36:49PB, Alan Erwin 38:56PB, Johnny Carey 46:41, Roisin Brooks 59:15
Rumours that Benny McGeown was a no show as he was making any early start on his outfit for the Xmas dinner are still to be confirmed. From the look of him last night it is unlikely.

Our own XC master, Tom Fleming, was representing the club again this week, this time at the National XC Uneven Ages competition. Tom finished 35th in the Boys U15 race in 11:54

So this week’s tune is an 80s classic, like many of our members!
