Run Race Report – 23rd October 2022
Another week over, another week nearer to Dublin for many Harriers and taper madness is rife. Don’t panic, nearly there folks. But not everyone runs marathons and there was plenty of parkrunning and mudsucking this week too.
Taking on the parkruns this week were:
Valley parkrun:
ADav 21:30, Ramunas Stanevicius 21:33, Neil Campbell 24:52, Clare Teer 29:08, Stephen Curran 29:25, Cathy Ryan 30:00, Neill McGlinchey 30:02, Roisin Brooks 32:36, Ciaran Hawkins 37:01, John Teer 37:32, Andrea Bradley 41:48
And a begrudging congratulations to ADav on completing 350 parkruns.
Waterworks parkrun:
Lord Ian Brennan 23:24, Jim Hewitt 25:53, Clare Gallagher 40:11
Wallace parkrun:
Elijah Cushley 22:29
Antrim parkrun:
Stephen Semple 24:38, Maeve Kennedy 24:47, Elaine Kennedy 31:07, And obviously Dermot Boyd 32:07
And we had a real tourist this week. Susan Thompson completed the South Bank parkrun in 38:49.
This parkrun is in Brisbane. Brisbane Australia. Where the Bee Gees lived. How far away do you have to go to avoid ADav’s 350th at the Valley?? The parkrun is held in the South Bank Parklands, a lovely area of park and beaches. It is also home to the Ghandi Curry House.
Jordanstown junior parkrun:
Emily Murphy 8:01 and first finisher, Coach Sinead O’Hare 8:41 and second finisher, Calum Murphy 10:11, Joseph Eager 12:39, Riley Kerr 12:40, Matthew Hawkins 12:40, Andrea Bradley 13:08PB, Rhys Kerr 14:49
Waterworks junior parkrun:
Leo McAuley 7:34PB and first finisher, Matthew Gallagher 10:23PB, Alice McAuley 15:45PB, Eloise McAuley 20:40
Victoria junior parkrun:
Rory Mason 8:51PB and second finisher
It’s been a quiet week for racing with not even Aidy nor Dermot getting the vest on. That must be a first! Too busy working on your Halloween costumes gents?
But there was finally another day out for the mudsuckers. Yes, XC is back! Hate it or really hate it, there are always a few Harriers ready to dig the spikes out of the attic. The usual routine is “I don’t want to do this; I hate this; I really hate this; that was class, when’s the next one?” Both Robbie and David definitely fell into this category yesterday.
Yesterday was the Bobby Rea XC Event at Billy Neill Playing Fields in sunny (genuinely!) Comber. We had juniors, ladies and even a full team of “gentlemen”.
U10 Girls 1,000m:
Eloise McAuley 3:46 and 6th place
U10 Boys 1,000m:
Rory Mason 4:01
U14 Girls 2,500m:
Emily Murphy 10:33, Coach Sinead O’Hare 11:44
U16 Boys 3,500m:
Tom Fleming 10:49 and 2nd place
U18 Boys 5,000m:
Adam McCann 19:49 (running for St Malachy’s)
Senior Woman 6,000m
Nuala Muldoon 32:12, Sharon Dunn 33:18
Senior Men 8,000m
Mark Smith 30:49, David Graham 32:33, Andrew McNevison 33:31, Kevin Donnelly 33:51, Micky McAuley 34:33, Sean Doherty 34:56, Robbie “used to be white spikes” Gould 35:33, Stevo Armour 36:13, Alan Erwin 38:13, Brendan McGeown 38:58
So this week’s tune is for all the juniors and seniors who tackled the Comber mud yesterday. You should all know better. I know I’ve used this tune before but there only so many mud related songs out there and this one is still an absolute belter. For the melters.

Until next week, behave.
