Club Race Report – 5th March 2023

Just remember, if you’re out running and see someone going faster than you, it’s because you’re running further. Fact.

Taking on the parkruns this week:

Valley parkrun:

Adam McCann 18:06PB and second finisher, Neil Campbell 24:39, Coach Sinead O’Hare 26:07, Ciaran Hawkins 27:33, Stephen Curran 34:16

And

congrats to Coach Sinead on completing her 50th senior parkrun.

Waterworks parkrun:

Kevin Donnelly 20:38, Stephen Semple 28:00, Maeve Kennedy 48:30

Victoria parkrun:

Leo O’Boyle 16:22PB and third place

ECOS Ballymena parkrun:

Elijah Cushley 21:04PB

We had a tourist this week as Martin McCready headed off to Ballina in County Mayo to complete the aptly named Ballina parkrun in 33:52. Ballina is the birthplace of Mary Robinson and was Jack Charlton’s base for his fishing trips. But the most exciting fact about Ballina is that it is twinned with the northern paradise that is Craigavon. Lucky sods.

But the real bit of tourism this week was the Harriers trip to Antrim parkrun. 24 Harriers and their support crew were tempted by Sean’s offer of free tea and coffee with a wee bit of running:

Stevo Armour 18:45PB, ADav 21:28, Ben Davidson 23:44, Robbie Gould 23:45, Lord Ian Brennan 24:27PB, Joe Mathers 24:28, Brendan McGeown 24:48, Aidy Hughes 26:09, David Graham 26:10, Shane McBrien 27:18, Suzanne Brennan 27:31, Sharon Dunn 27:32, Sean Doherty 27:34, Marie McBrien 27:46, Neill McGlinchey 28:12, Owen Fulton 28:29, Joanne Milne 28:48, Susan Thompson 31:58, Roseann McGeown 32:07PB, Terri Ganley 32:30, Carrie Murphy 32:30PB, Stephen Murphy 32:31, Elaine Kennedy 34:19, Clare ROTM Gallagher 37:02

Jordanstown Junior parkrun:

Riley Kerr 12:18, Matthew Hawkins 12:29, Joseph Eager 12:54, Rhys Kerr 16:20, Coach Sinead O’Hare 16:48

And a big shout out to Matthew on completing his 200th junior parkrun. Well done sir.

Waterworks junior parkrun:

Aaron Ladd 10:29PB, Caleb Ladd 16:13

Other racing started early this week as the Harriers were represented again at the latest Tafelta AC night of 5000s track event. Taking on the 5k distance were:

Mark Smith 17:33, Sean Doherty 17:57PB, Stevo Armour 19:06PB

Several Harriers stayed on in Antrim on Saturday to take part in the Atlas Shane’s Castle half marathon event:

Karen McKee 1:49:35, Dawn “birthday girl” Blain 1:49:59, Nuala Muldoon 1:57:29, Elaine Kennedy 2:19:57

But that wasn’t the only half distance that day as we also had Harriers at the 26 Extreme Carlingford Half Marathon as well:

Alan Ladd 1:17:31PB and 10th place overall, Patricia Curistan 1:34:29PB, Johnny Carey 1:36:19PB, Ciaran Wright 1:38:27, Ken McAuley 1:41:19

And a huge

congratulations to Patricia on breaking the club’s female half marathon record!

We may have had juniors at the latest East Coast AC Junior XC event today but we’ll catch up their results next week.

So this week’s tune is for Dawn Blain who celebrated her big birthday with a half marathon. Proper Harrier.

Until next week, behave.
